Why We Love Flexon Frames
Flexon frames bend the rules—literally… And that’s one of the reasons we love them.
Flexon frames date back to the early ’60s when US Naval Ordnance Lab scientists were creating titanium based alloys. They were developing them for heat shields on missiles!
Metal That Remembers
They discovered that bends in the alloy would remove themselves when exposed to heat—automatically. They produced a small amount of alloy and then hit it with a hammer to test its hardness, causing dents. Then they left the dented sample on a window sill. Several hours later they discovered the dents had “removed themselves” after sitting in the sun. The metal “remembered” its original shape and automatically returned to it!
If you haven’t ever tried on a pair of Flexon frames, come in and do it. You’ll see that they really are innovative.
